What is RTI (Response to Intervention)?
RTI falls under Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS). It is mandated by the state of New Jersey and part of the general education model. RTI is designed to provide differentiated instruction to students who need additional support in the classroom but do not require special services based on a three tiered approach. RTI requires universal screenings of all students in grades K-3 to ensure students are meeting developmental expectations. Documentation is required for RTI services.
Universal Screenings We Use: DIBELS, Orton Gillingham Assessments, Running Records, STAR Reading and STAR Math
RTI Team
The team consists of the following: building principal, school counselor, reading specialist and/or BSI teacher, classroom teacher, parent of student. Not all team members need to be present to make intervention plans but may be pulled in as needed.
Grade Level Team Meetings
Grade level data meetings during the day will be scheduled every 6 weeks to discuss student concerns, progress, and intervention plans. A Google calendar has been created for this purpose. As a team, we can provide appropriate interventions to be sure all our students are making progress.
